Prologue

I'm not really sure how Pa actually acquired that 50's Space Car. He was always really secretive about it's origins. But I can tell you that it showed up in the driveway on April 22, 1963 and mom wasn't the least bit pleased to see it there.

I remember her hissing at us to stay put in the kitchen and then she was running out the backdoor, still in her bathrobe and slippers, rushing down the steps to catch Pa before he could get out the gleaming red and silver monster, with it's wide white-walled tires and shiny chrome interior. He was grinning from ear to ear, even as she obviously berated him.

Whatever was said in the driveway, it didn't matter. Because the 50's Space Car stayed and, much to my mother chargrin, ended up being one of the most bonding moments in our childhood.
