100k
My car hit 100,000 miles today, right as I was pulling into my parking spot at work this morning (I'm sure that means something).

How much gas does this take? Too much.

I could have driven around the Earth about 4 times (at the equator no less). Instead, the farthest this car has gone from here is Southern Maine. This car has traveled the world.

But in typical New England style, the world is confined to a 200-mile radius of Boston. 90% of which is within the 495 belt.

Cape II: The Surreal Redux

Yet another trip to the Cape this weekend. Same place, but this time no kids. The first time Tine and I have been without a child present in three years (which was also a trip to the Cape). Had another great weekend with Tine and I'm worried that I'm about to jinx it in some way. Things have been looking up. I hope it continues, because it's actually starting to feel like everything might actually end up being alright.

The weather was excellent again. Warmer, but still cool. Zero clouds. And another full moon at night. Awesome. We stayed in the same place, a house in a neighborhood of rental houses near the beach (I should try to post some pics). But it was just as empty as beforehand. Our big outing this time was a used book store in Chatham. I picked up some new age CD that was playing while we were browsing. It's all this lonely reed and piano. When we got back, I put it on loop and it added to that strange feeling of isolation being in a cluster houses that are all empty. The whole thing took on this unreal quality, especially Sunday morning. It's bright and sunny, yet there doesn't appear to be another human being for miles.

Eight: Small Appliances

Today is my 8th year anniversary at work. Yippiee. I took this job because I needed work and I figured I'd keep looking. Sort of use it as an in-between. I didn't even buy a long sleeve shirt until December, I was so sure I wasn't staying long. (I've probably written that before.)

And now I'm still here. I'm the only one still here. Seriously, I am the only full-time EP left (which is what makes my title as Senior EP so ridiculous). Rebecca's still here and she's got about 6 weeks seniority over me, but she's an editor. Should that count? Probably.

So, here's a list of production people who've passed on since I started:

01. Sean F.   Editor 2000

02. Patrick P. Editor 2000

03. John W. Editor 2000

04.  Katie Mc.  Editor 2000

05.  Kat S.  Production  06/2001

06.   Skippy   Weenie  06/2001

07.   John E.  EP   08/2002

08.  Jenn K.  Editor  12/2002

09.  Steve C.   Porn Star  08/2003

10.   Jill S.   Editor  06/2004

11.   Jason P.  EP   06/2005

12.  Kate R.   Editor  12/2005

13.  Don H.   EP   06/2006

Some of these people I actually miss.

Fever

TheBoy's been sick all week. We took him to the doctor on Monday and he has an ear infection, but his temp hasn't dropped below 99 since it started on Sunday. Most of the time it's been hovering around 101.4 [1]. It's actually mildly disturbing that he still has a temp. The amoxicillin usually kicks in pretty quick and he should have returned to some semblance of normal with about 24 hours.

I spend Monday and Tuesday home with him and Tine's home today [2]. He's been up and down. He would have energy and be playful for awhile then suddenly stop and get punchy. Literally. He would try to punch me in slow-motion and thought it was really funny if he could try to get me to smell his feet. That became the sign that that meds were wearing off. He won't eat much and it's hard to get liquids into him. He won't drink more than a few sips.

I hope his fever breaks soon.

[1] We bought a new thermometer. It's wicked fast, like 15 seconds, but the best part is this handy-dandy color-coded system! Because if DHS has taught us anything, it's that color-charts for warning levels are extremely useful. Green for Good, Yellow for High, Red for Fever. Now you don't have to remember that above 101 is a fever, it does it for you! Thank Christ, now I can occupy that space in my head with more useful things, like what crazy shit Tom Cruise is doing or what Brittany might be up to after rehab.

Thank God I'm an American.

[2] Which is how 90-100% of both Tine and my sick and vacation time gets burned. Home when a kid is sick, snow days, or anything that forces them to not be in daycare in some way for the last 10+ years. I can't imagine what it's going to be like when TheBoy is old enough to be home alone. Seriously, it's going to feel downright freaky to actually have free time.
