Serial Friday: Myra 1.9
Despite the fucking sky falling in again, I've managed to cobble together Myra 1.9. Actually, I had this about 99% done before my personal universe imploded for the 23rd time, so it's a start. This one is a bit iffy in my head. A chunk of this was written over the summer right before implosion #1, then a long gap from then until about a week ago. This one could end up completely trashed and rewritten, but I'm at the point where I've got say screw it and just plod on through. I should post it during this minor lull, before implosion #24 rears its ugly head.

Working on Myra
I've got a rough and tumble version of 1.9 done. I had to get the hell out of the house yesterday and I wound up at Borders with my laptop. Yes, I was a big, fat dork, sitting there, sipping ice tea and writing. I'm quite sure, I looked ever so fucking pretentious.
I've actually never written in public before and it was somewhat disconcerting. It probably didn't help that I chose what I thought was a quite table against the wall that turned out to be directly in front of where the staff moves in and out of the back. But for a short while, I actually forgot where I was and just wrote. I even got a small chunk of 1.10 out. However, because I had written about half of 1.9 months ago, I have some triage to do on it now to mesh it together. Even then it's bound to be clunky (as opposed to the crappy the rest of it is, I guess). There's a very good chance, this will get some retro-writing as I go.
With luck, I'll have it up around mid-week, hopefully. Be gentle, it's still a flaming mess.
Still no heat in the car. But the snow meant that Tine stayed home and I have the Highlander today. Which was very good, the snow this morning was pretty bad. At times, I could barely make out the car in front of me a few yards away. Sharon had a detour that came out where a pole or tree had snapped and brought down every major line into one single place in the center of the road. I got here about 10 AM to find the place almost deserted. Apparently, they changed the call-in message at 7:30 that you could work home if you wanted to, a full 30 minutes after I checked it and found no change.
I decided to stay, because it seemed stupid to make my way home in the snow only to work with everyone home and around (meaning no real work gets done). Especially when the snow is supposed to end around 3PM and I can actually get something accomplished here.

Lunch, or the Lack Thereof
I opened my lunch to microwave what I thought was going to be chili only to be confronted with pasta and sauce. What happened to the chili? The containers are the same, but the cover is only translucent. It was reddish and it was the identical shape as the previous chili container, yet no chili.
But more importantly, when the hell did we have pasta and sauce last? How long has this been in the fridge? Should I eat it anyway, risking some kind of food poisoning with explosive bowel movements? How long would I have to cook it in the microwave to kill anything that might be in it? Would I be left with nothing but flaky ashes and the shrill of the smoke alarm?
I chickened out and had a cookie from the vending machine with a V8 instead. Chocolate chip doesn't not wash down with V8 very easily.

Blower Blows
It's dropped down into the freaking teens the last couple of days and, because I have this bizarre karma, the blower in my car has stopped working. The heat works, but there's nothing to force it out of the vents.
So, I had to drive to work all bundled up while just enough warm air wafts onto the windshield to keep it clear. Even that's not true. I let the car warm up for almost 20 minutes this morning and it didn't do a damn thing to get the ice off the windshield. It's only enough to keep ti from fogging up, I think.
More than likely, my body heat brought up the temperature to just around freezing. My fingers took a good hour to thaw out once I got here.
Going home is going to be worse, because it's been sitting in shade all day and I don't really want to sit there for 20+ minutes before heading home.
Man, this never happens when it's convenient does it?
