Fever

TheBoy's been sick all week. We took him to the doctor on Monday and he has an ear infection, but his temp hasn't dropped below 99 since it started on Sunday. Most of the time it's been hovering around 101.4 [1]. It's actually mildly disturbing that he still has a temp. The amoxicillin usually kicks in pretty quick and he should have returned to some semblance of normal with about 24 hours.

I spend Monday and Tuesday home with him and Tine's home today [2]. He's been up and down. He would have energy and be playful for awhile then suddenly stop and get punchy. Literally. He would try to punch me in slow-motion and thought it was really funny if he could try to get me to smell his feet. That became the sign that that meds were wearing off. He won't eat much and it's hard to get liquids into him. He won't drink more than a few sips.

I hope his fever breaks soon.

[1] We bought a new thermometer. It's wicked fast, like 15 seconds, but the best part is this handy-dandy color-coded system! Because if DHS has taught us anything, it's that color-charts for warning levels are extremely useful. Green for Good, Yellow for High, Red for Fever. Now you don't have to remember that above 101 is a fever, it does it for you! Thank Christ, now I can occupy that space in my head with more useful things, like what crazy shit Tom Cruise is doing or what Brittany might be up to after rehab.

Thank God I'm an American.

[2] Which is how 90-100% of both Tine and my sick and vacation time gets burned. Home when a kid is sick, snow days, or anything that forces them to not be in daycare in some way for the last 10+ years. I can't imagine what it's going to be like when TheBoy is old enough to be home alone. Seriously, it's going to feel downright freaky to actually have free time.
