Where the hell have I been?
We finally got rid of the wagon Tine was driving. I'm fairly confident it was about to explode. Violent shaking when brakes applied; massive tracking to the left. That car has *never* been right since the day we bought it back in 2000. But we did manage to get 170k miles out of it and traded it in for a 05 Highlander with very low miles. Hopefully, we'll be good for another 7 years.
Played the BrikWars SkiffFight game on the 23rd. A really neat steampunk game of flyer against flyer. Six of us circling around (flushward) a minefield taking shots at each other. I'm terrible about keeping up with any write ups, but there were some very cool moments where gun powder barrels exploded and skiffs ramming other skiffs for some rather Bruckheimerian scale action. Despite my initial failures, I managed to end in the most favorable position and was declared the defacto winner. Go me.
We now know when the kitchen will be started. August 6th is the start date and they claim it will only take a week. We actually have a lot of stuff to still pull out of there, but knowing when they're starting is a big relief. It actually gives up some time to coordinate using up everything in the freezer before we don't have a refrigerator anymore.
I'm getting on a plane again in just over 3 weeks and it's starting to freak me out. Not that I wasn't freaked out beforehand, but every day it just gets closer and closer and I'm sort of wishing I hadn't agreed to go. It's a long flight too, like 4 hours. Goddamn, I hate flying.
I picked up some card games, hopefully for the flight. Although, I think they work better with 3 players. Mag Blast, which I have yet to try. And Let's Kill. I like Let's Kill, where you're a serial killer trying to get the most points from the victims you kill. The card graphics are all done as pencil sketches and stick people. It actually helps set the right tone for the game. But I'm still a little weary of some elements. They could have gone another way with some of the victims. Overall it's silly, but it's that something's-bugging-me silly.
Old Skool Gaming is still at the heart of my computer gaming lately. I reinstalled Doom of all things. It's extremely dated, with it's pseudo-3D and massive pixels, but man is it still as good as ever (although, the "bouncing" that simulates running is much more taxing than I remember. I got a headache the first night I played). I'm totally sucked into it these past few days and I'm having a blast. This morning I got through the first level where you get a hold of the rocket launcher and proceeded to blow the crap out of everything that moved. Which turned out to be one of those invisible pink-pig things, at close range. Close range is not the recommended minimum distance for the rocket launcher and I was killed for the second time since I started playing. Now if I can get someone to play some online multiplayer, that would ROCK!
I caught some kind of chest cold, Captain Trips thing at the end of last week into this weekend. I feel mostly okay, but coughed up a lung yesterday and have felt this pervasive slight dizziness for about a week now. I actually couldn't talk yesterday without sounding like Bobby Brady going through puberty.
Short week. Taking Friday off, but not Thursday. Two days in, then 1 day off, then 1 day in and 3 days off. I like my vacations random and spotty. Go fig.
