Monday, June 04, 2007 Old Skool Gaming II BestBuy sent us a $20 rewards coupon and I picked up the Command & Conquer: The First Decade collection. C&C, C&C: Tiberium Sun, Red Alert 1 & 2, C&C Generals, plus all the expansions. A whopping 12 games on one DVD. I spent a good chunk of Saturday night playing the original Command & Conquer in all it's chunky, pixel goodness. It still a damn good game. Even though I'm much better at RTS in general, I still had some trouble with a couple of the missions (usually involving no resource gathering). My generic plan is to play through them as they were meant to be and see if I don't have total burnout before I'm finished. Even TheBoy found Red Alert 2 more to his liking. The graphics are better than the first one, and it uses lines to show where you're telling troops to go, so that helps him visualize what's going on. I did have to help him defend his base at one point, but for the most part, he's good to sit there alone. There was one, priceless moment yesterday. I was sitting on the couch while he was playing. From where I sat, I can't see the screen, TheBoy is off to my upper left, facing my general direction. I heard the air-raid siren telling him a nuclear missile had been launched by the enemy. I turned to look and it was clear he was oblivious to it. Then, suddenly, he was bathed in bright, white light and the sound of the nuke going off. His eyes grew as wide as they possibly could and his jaw, literally fell open. He was dumbstruck for a good 10-15 seconds. "What happened, pal?" I asked. He looked over at me, his mouth still slightly open, "They blew up my base. It's all gone." posted by Evil Wayne | 10:15 PM 0 comments 0 Comments: |
