iPod Woes

My freaking iPod is being problematic lately. iTunes will no longer synch it, which means I can't put any new music on it that way. It also has a nasty tendency to crash and take my whole system with it. I haven't tried restoring it to the factory default yet. Which might be the only thing that gets it going again. But I have a lot of music on there that I don't feel like having to re-rip. I mean, a real lot. About 15 gigs worth that I no longer keep on my PC, that's the point, right?

I think I've found a way to get some of the music directly off the iPod, but even that caused the iPod to crash a couple of time (thankfully not crashing my PC... yet). If I can get the basic stuff I listen to off, I'll be happy. I'll be happier if restoring it works. I really don't want a new iPod. Mine is a third-gen and it has this nifty cord extention for the earbuds with pause/play, skip/back and volume buttons, which I wicked dig. Plus, I'm setup at work with it plugged in a stand so it's always charged. I'd rather not have to give it all up.

That wonderful cord.
