Weekend Burn

I got a minor burn from the wood stove Saturday night. A nice oblong sear across the underside of my forearm, hurt like a muther-fucker (as it well should, the stove was pretty damn hot at the time). I'm still not 100% sure how I missed the handle, but I did and my momentum caught the edge of the door. It's funny, but I can't seem to recall every burning myself like this before. Which is a miracle in it's own right, I guess.

I tried to take a picture of it, but it's my right arm and I can't get a good shot without the flash obscuring all detail.

Other than that, the weekend was mostly uneventful, which is part of the problem, I guess. I spend some time pacing in and out of the Lego area trying to figure out if there was some way to make it more useful to no avail.

It's starting to rake on my nerves how useless the area has become. More so because there's the Pirate Game coming up and I have 2 ships and at least 1 island to prepare. On top of that, I have this revamped !Zombie! idea I'd like to try for around Halloween. Only it sort of requires me to start working on it now for the visuals.

I'm tired. I never seem to get enough sleep.

Less Filling

This is turning into a light month for the blog.

Yet, there seems to be a lot going on. Maybe I'm just burnt out most of the time. I've had to postpone the Year of BrikWar Award Show for reasons that I won't really go into here. It's not canceled, just put off. Which turns out to have the silver lining of at least getting all the trophy parts in --the last packages came today.

I punted the Pirate Game to next month as well, which has woefully taken a backseat lately. Seems that it's all catching up to me in one way or the other. They're all out to get me.

And there's been a whole lot of other stuff that I just don't have the energy to even elude to.

I just can never get the hang of February.

!Zombies!

What can I say, sometimes time just gets away from me. I finally got around to posting my pics from the !Zombies! game we played in January.

Of 2005.

In fact, it was the first game in our first Year of BrikWars event. Which was a pretty good game if I do say so myself. Needed some tweaks, but still a good entries all around.

I'm actually starting work on a revamped, more compact zombie game at the moment.

Anyway, here's a link to the folder: !Zombies!

All Out of Whiskey

I took the last 3 shots tonight (it's been that kind of day, mutherfucker). I never noticed this before, but a bottle of whiskey (and probably all hard stuff) is evenly divisible by a shot glass.

Makes sense, I guess.

Valentine's Day 2006

Still have the same hateful, loathing of this particular "holiday". I really detest the idea that in some way my affections for anyone have to be tested and rated like this. It's always a sore point, so I'll just add this card:

Once again, stealing something off someone elses website saves the day. And Steve can appreciate The Simpsons reference which also saves the day on many occasions.

There; I love you and this proves it.

Can we now get back to our regular lives?

Moving right along, we had a major snowstorm over the weekend. Sometime late Saturday night and all day Sunday it snowed like it hadn't all season. Sort of a reminder that it's not yet Spring you dolts. They claim it was a blizzard, but while it was quite the downfall, I feel let down to find the requirements for a blizzard are simply reduced visiblity and 35 MPH winds sustain for 3 hours.

It seems that a blizzards should be An Event.

Which is why they get mileage out of the Blizzard of '78 every year. Now that was a storm. Unpredicted, massive snowfall. School was cancelled for a week. Cars stuck on the highway. And a state of emergency that meant no cars were on the roads for days.

Today, you get a blizzard and you still have to go to work the next day.

Spam

When I set up the domain, initially I got an email associated with it.

whatever@evilwayne.com"@evilwayne.com, right?

Well, thanks to robots and spiders, it quickly became a spam whore. I mean, really bloated with all kinds of ads for penis enlargement, gold and diamonds from Africa, how to meet hot, slutty chicks from your area and various drug and watch offers that claimed limited time, yet still continued to arrived for months after the fact. Finally, I gave up and just shut off those accounts. Or so I thought.

It finally caught up to me yesterday.

I went to post the above entry and it refused. With an error message letting me know there's just no more darn space on the internet.

After a short exchange with my host, it turns out that email isn't being deleted fast enough. Or, more to the point, the rest of the space on my site was being used for email storage. About 350 MB of it. Luckily, it was quite easy to delete it and redirect all incoming mail to a blackhole.

So take that spammer bitches.

Cartoon, Cartoon

On Sunday Fox reran a block of The Simpsons. In there, nestled between a pair of Halloween shows was the Christmas episode. In it, they satirized the birth of Christ, putting Bart in the baby Jesus slot. From there, he was able to taunt Homer/Joseph by turning his wine to water for one. Throwing him into a rage. He even lunged to attack Baby Jesus/Bart.

To me, it seemed slightly edgy. I mean, Jesus/Bart is a bit of a jerk here. When I first saw it, I though for sure someone from the right would decry the episode as blasphemous. But if they had, I have not heard about it.

They certainly didn't take to the streets and demonstrate outside the Fox affiliates that aired it. Nobody tried to attack the producers, script writers or anyone involved. There was no boycott of Fox (although there should be for any number of other reasons). Nobody set fire to flags, threaten death to those in power, or tried to blow up an embassy.

It's a cartoon.

It's satire.

Which brings me to the brouhaha in the Middle East over those cartoons of Muhammad. While some of the caricatures released are probably distasteful to the average person, is it really worth this kind of trouble? Does it really demand this level of out rage and violence?

NPR reported that the cartoons were published in Denmark last September. And Muslim clerics wrote to the Danish government about the offensive nature and wanted a meeting. They did not get a meeting and then they, the clerics, began circulating the offensive images to the Middle East. Apparently the also mixed in some further images that were offensive--stuff that wasn't initially printed. I can't seem to find the link, which is too bad.

But, if true, shows that once they didn't get what they wanted, they turned to a venue they knew would get a sever reaction and worldwide attention.

I think there a lesson in there about control. 1984 keeps popping into my head for some reason.

On top of it all, they're doing themselves a disservice. I mean, these people are doing nothing to dissuade their stereotypical image. The whole uproar seems wildly surreal. A satirical image initially published months ago, hundreds of miles away has them whipped up into a self-righteous frenzy. Yet, some of these people don't have single qualm about spouting off hatred of Israel and the Jew with same such a violent and self-righteous passion.

Here's a link to an archive of images of Muhammad over the centuries. It has some rudimentary commentaries. It also includes the Danish cartoons at the end with some reaction to the current wave of insanity over it. Personally, I think this one sums it up.

Interesting

Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.

Firefly

Thanks to the normal shows (Lost and Invasion) being repeats last night, we finally got to see the last 3 episodes of Firefly. We had a pretty good clip going over the summer, but for the life of me I can't recall why we stopped just 3 short of the finish line.

I still think FOX is one of the worst networks of all time. Why on Earth would they have cancelled this program? Or not bother showing the premiere in order? I believe they wake up in the morning and think, "How can I fuck with John Q. Public, today?" Worst. Network. Ever.

So, anyway, we're now free and clear to watch the movie, Serentiy, and maybe that'll get Steve off my back about it. Unfortunately, the way things like this normally happen is that I'll want to watch it this weekend, and we'll have to put it off for some reason, hoping for next week.

Then it will be June.
