Everything's Coming Up Milhouse!

I got my order from BrickArms the other day. Two, 6-pack sets of minifig weapons in black (he even threw in a bonus RPG in grey). They are very swanky and give the minifigs a mean look. I can see now why Lego would be hesitant to produce such things. The megaphone-blaster is really ambiguous and even though we can all agree it's a blaster and it can look like a weapon, especially in the case of the Star Wars sets, it still has a certain cartoon element about it. Giving the minifigs realistic weapons seems to change them in real and unnatural ways. They seem much more violent now.

The third-party, Mystery Science Theater DVD came yesterday! I bought one episode from a online dealer of the Earth vs The Spider episode. I plugged it into the DVD player and it works, which is good. Looks like VCR quality, but that's okay. I'm not expecting hi-def television from something probably recorded in the early 90s. It even had the old, colored, world logo for Comedy Central in the lower corner. I'm hoping we can watch it this weekend. If the whole thing works and the quality is okay, then I'm hoping to get my hands on some of the other episodes that are no longer available. It Conquers the World and any of the Gamera films are tops on my list (and maybe Fire Maidens of Outer Space --"Outer space in a prop plane? I don't think so.")

Steve pointed out that Futurama might be going the way of Family Guy.

Speaking of TV making a come back, the local WB channel (a UHF station) is bringing back the old Creature Double Feature program from the early 80s this Saturday. It's a double-dose of cheesy monster/sci-if films. This is right up there with MST3K (sans the bots), and the first movie is Godzilla vs the Smog Monster. Rock on!

Lastly, I bought a copy of CorelDraw 12 Suite from Amazon and it's finally arrived. Not only does it update me to the almost latest version, but I got it dirt cheap. Cheaper than buying the upgrade directly from Corel. Strangely, it was also cheaper than it's currently going for on Amazon; for some reason, it's gone up by $70 in the last week. I'm pretty excited to get it, as it upgrades my home stuff substantially. I can start in on a couple of freelance projects. CorelDraw 8 has been wicked buggy on XP. Plus, this is the Suite version, so I'm also getting Photo-Paint, and a few other programs (which I will probably never use :P).

Now I just need to scrap up some more money for a graphic tablet, I'll be all set.
