Synchronicity
The synchronistic event in question, which occurred yesterday, was actually set into motion about 6 or more years ago. Bare with me, this gets long-winded for real reason.
At that time, my iPod had developed a case of the FUs. In that it was constantly giving me a F*ck You. This resulted in the loss of many songs on the iPod, which was further exacerbated by the fact I no longer kept music on my PC because that was part of the point of an MP3 player.
Unfortunately, my entire CD collection was put in boxes in the attic for work that was done on the house in 2004. There it has remained until about 3 weeks ago. Now it sits in boxes in my bedroom.
Over the last couple of days, I have tried to take a CD that I know was lost and re-rip it to the iPod. I figure there's probably about 50-60 CDs that I need to do this for and by doing it piecemeal, it will eventually get done.
Tuesday, I went to the box before work and fingered by way through the titles and grabbed Simon & Garfunkel's Greatest Hits. I have a hankering for some "Scarborough Fair" which features prominently in a novel I've never written. However, upon opening the case, I notice there are 2 CD inside. While I put the one I assume is Simon & Garfunkel in the computer, I am amazed to find my Norah Jones CD. This CD has been missing for years and I start to wonder how the hell it got in there in the first place.
At this point, iTunes tells me it's ready to start importing the CD to my library. I look up to see if it's pulled all the right track names and I notice that none of the song titles are what I'm expecting. Where is "Sound of Silence"? "Mrs. Robinson"? "Cecilia"?
I look up at the title and I am stunned. Not only is it not Simon & Garfunkel it is a CD that I was positive had been long lost. Lost longer than Norah Jones, that's a fact. I haven't seen this CD for at least the last five or six years. So long that I'm quite sure it has been permanently lost.
It is Leonard Cohen Live in Concert
Okay, so no big deal right? Long lost CD comes home. Only this CD doesn't belong to me. It was the only thing I ever borrowed from BillC back at Salem State. Bill and I were good friends through college. He ran the Writing Center and I worked there. After I graduated, he was about the only person I saw from college; he lived in town and I worked in Cambridge, so we occasionally got together.
After I lost my job and started working outside of town, I saw him less. In fact, I think I haven't seen him since leaving Cambridge. I'm not even sure if he knew about TheBoy.
I was thinking all this on my way into work on Tuesday. I even tried to look him up at the school to tell him I had the CD and what the hell's been going on in the 5+ years since we saw each other last. Only he doesn't appear to have email.
I wonder about contacting one of the other professors I used to know, but decide to wait. Maybe I can mail it to him at the school.
Yesterday afternoon, I get an email in the middle of the day. Out of the goddamn blue,I shit you not, it's BillC. How the hell have you been, I've been meaning to get in touch, the whole shabang.
At least five years and I haven't said or heard anything and bam! within 24 hours I get both barrels.
Synchronicity.

I was just thinking that I should play the lottery.
However, I wasn't thinking of giving you half. Can't really follow one and not the other, you know?

I'm not kidding, my life is full of that kind of stuff.
