Slag

I'm all over the map lately and my posting has become rather erratic, I guess. There's not really any one thing causing it either, but I'm starting to feel real guilt over it.

The LAN party was a blast. Well, except for trying to play StarCraft, which I've decided sucks ass now. I was never a big fan of it, I know that makes me a minority, but I've always enjoyed Total Annihilation so much more. And I think if we're going back 8 years for a game, TA holds up much better. Each time we tried to play us against the computer, the computer kicked ass. I mean it was a slaughter and there was no way to win.

Other than that, the staples: Quake III Superhero Mod and AvP were a blast. AvP is probably the best LAN game I've ever played. Survivor mod puts one player as an alien and the rest as Marines. Once a Marine is killed by the Aliens (friendly frags don't count) then he respawns as an Alien. So it's this ever dwindling good guys against an increasing force of leaping, toothy death. Scads of fun.

Here's my pics, which -expect for the house- look like every other small LAN party pics:

I am aware that I am way the hell behind on the Pirate Game.

Speaking of which, prepping for the Pirate Game caused me to miss Lost that week. Then, a series of things kept me from seeing it in time for the next episode, which I then taped. Suffice to say that I am now 4 weeks in the hole, much to the chagrin of Steve, who keep berating me about it.

TheBoy's been sick and that causes him to sleep funny. Yesterday he took a 4 hour nap, so he was up late last night. I finally got to see Castle in the Sky, a movie I taped about 3 weeks ago. Anime; with some steampunk elements - one of my favorite subgenres. I thought the story was decent and the dubbing was pretty well done. I was reading that lots of people hated the James Van Der Beek dub, but I didn't. I didn't realize that anyone famous was part of the dub (except Cloris Leachman - I picked her out within seconds) until I started to hear Mark Hamill. But I thought Van Der Beek did a pretty good job. He sounded like a kid, but a kid who had been around. Smart, but not annoying smart. It probably helped that I didn't know who that was until I actually looked him up, not being a fan of Dawson's Cheek.

Last year, I said I wanted to work on a SteamPunk-BrikWars game. I let myself get sidetracked with the Pirate Game, but no more! I'm diving into some source material to see if I can mine it for actual construction.

I've gotten some old Space:1889 RPG books. Some are on order, but the one I have contains deck plans for a couple of flyers that are the backbone of the game of working on. The whole thing has got me thinking in terms of an actual story for which I've made a skeleton plot. Of course, there's no way I could write it.

That little nuisance issue has made at least a single-instance return. I'm waiting to see if it repeats today, and that's got me on edge. The thought of talking to more parents, or returning to the first set fills me with dread actually. From there, I think police involvement might be necessary. How's that for fucked up? Let's take what is essentailly a harmless prank and turn it into a full blown police report. Mutherfuckers don't know when to lay off. Seriously, it's stressing me out for no good reason.

There's a NELUG meeting tonight. Hopefully, it'll be distracting, because lately everything is seeming to weigh on me in unnatural ways.
