I've been slacking here lately.
It partially because I've been so darn busy at work, home, the SE:IV game, and trying to pack February with the 2005 Year of BrikWars Award Show and the first 2006 BrikWar game; It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad, Pirate Game (I'll have more details in a while; right now we're stuck on the wind-rules).
It is our first Pirate-themed game, which is convenient, because I gave this cycle of BrikWars the name Year of the PirateNinja. So we'll start with a pirate game and, if we get lucky, end with a ninja game.
But the awards show is a mini-event this year. Mostly because it got suggested so darn late. I think from query to answer was about 2 weeks ago. I'm in charge of the February meeting and I figure this is as good a theme as any. Frankly, our meeting are theme-less and I've been gunning for something, anything, for the meetings. We're just starting to bring MOCs and whatnot to them.
This won't be a huge affair. We'll have a video montage I'm working on that should encompass the games of last year. Then a little awards ceremony for the winners in a series of categories. Right now there are categories for the player to nominate someone are:
- Top Score, B.A.R. Exam
That player whom knew and/or used the rules to repeatedly inflict them upon other players as a way of making sure that no rules were ignored or broken at any time are eligible for this award, the top score in the Brikwars Anal Retention (B.A.R.) Exam. - Esprit De Corps (Spirit of the Game)
The player whom took the supplied theme/back story from a game description and build and/or played with said theme in mind without an eye towards winning (although that could be the outcome). - Master Munchkin
That player which exhibited a serious liberal interpretation of the rules to maximize his or her usage of Construction Points (CP) and/or the rules, in general, in an effort to achieve total victory. (This is most often antithetical to Esprit De Corps.) - Best Brikwars MOC
That creation, built specifically for BrikWar game, that is most impressive. - Brikwars MVP
The best overall player of BrikWars.
Sullivan and I still have to come up with the actual trophies or prizes. I culled together most of the PAB wall in Burlington and made an LDraw file to see if we can't create stuff from there. I actually got a small budget from the club, making it an official NELUG event (and why shouldn't it be), which rocks the house.
All participants in our Year of BrikWars for 2005 get to nominate and then vote on who should win. I've even set up a secret ballot email just for the whole bloody occasion.
Dork isn't just being taken to a whole new level; we're on the cusp of an evolutionary leap here.

Huh... what are the odds that guy uses the exact same freaky wording of another chucklehead from last month?

So this fuckhead goes around, cuts and pastes his blog spam as comments? And badly I might add, because this one doesn't exist - at least the link is wrong. Which leads me to believe he's copy-pasting from a file he's forgotten to update.
Die spaminator! Die!
The link worked when I got one of those, but it went to the most boring blog in the world.
Are these pirate rules being discussed somewhere? I have some good ideas. Ideas about acceleration based on trigonometric functions between wind and sail directions, maneuvering qualities for each sail type, number of men necessary to hoist a yardarm or jib of any given size...
I was thinking of helping out by sending prizes to everyone but Shaun as I've done in earlier years, but that got me in enough trouble last time and I haven't got any good treats handy. I've been meaning to put a "player types" section in the introduction to BW2005, I might make some of the winners special guest stars (related example: see 1.8.4: Creatures).
After much debate and a heafty amount of swearing, you will find access granted at forums.
Be warned, there's some fairly lengthy pirate text without an Arrr! or Yarrr! in sight.
