Serial Wednesday: 4S
Episodes 61-65, wherein we finally learn the true plot behind the 4S! Hold on your seats, it's going to be... well, it'll probably be a let down. But if you've come this far you might as well keep on truckin'. Seriously, what do you have to loose?
No, don't answer that.

Can I pelt you with pinapple slices?
See this is my problem with all suspense stories. Its relatively easy to build suspense. Then when you get to the end its like snapping a rubber band, only it doesn't fly anywhere, it just sort of goes limp, but not before stinging your fingers.
Actually, its not bad for a post card serial. ;)
Oh, and everyone loves the P-51. That was part of the plan for that plane from the beginning.
Well, it's really the just the McGuffin - it's not really important what they're doing, just that they're doing something that needs to be stopped. But it's still ridiculiously lame, I'll agree.

I don't accept McGuffins. (Wouldn't it be funny if McDonald's sold a McGuffin sandwich--it could be an empty wrapper!) If you can't solve the riddle, then there is no ingenuity in the plot. That is why I am so conflicted about the show LOST. I think the thing might be one big McGuffin. Of course, it might not.
The thing is, I love puzzles. I think they are awesome, and I always feel a sense of great accomplishment when I solve one. So a McGuffin is kind of like a fake puzzle. Then I just feel cheated.
Not that I fault you for using the technique. I'll just hate you. We hates it forever, precious!!
I reject your rejection, sir!
I think you misunderstand what a McGuffin is.
There's a difference between solving a puzzle or mystery and having a device that furthers the plot for its own sake. The best example I can think of is Hitchcock's North by Northwest (which you should totally rent if you've never seen it). Cary Grant gets mistaken for spy and everyone's out to get the microfilm from him.
It doesn't matter what's on the microfilm, it's just the device that keeps all parties interested in him and gets the movie going. Without it there would be no movie, but what it is isn't exactly important.
Now I would never equate my little piece of garbage with Hitchcock. And I guess I can see there appears to be this drama of what's going on; but I can tell you when I wrote it, it was just an excuse to have amazingly ridiculous adventures. I think I said it in the intro that it was more of a case of See What Fun You Missed? than anything else.
okay.
