Saturday, December 25, 2004 Merry Christmas!
Hope you got at least 3/5ths of what you wanted! I don't think I did, but at least I'm on vacation, bitches. posted by Evil Wayne | 1:26 AM 0 comments Friday, December 24, 2004 Christmas Eve Oh man, I'm buzzed — Old Skool. I did like four shots and I'm sort of thinking anything is a good idea right now. Like walking outside in my jammies or doing som cartwheeels. man, I used to love to do cartwheels when i was buzzing. It was sort of gay trademark to have someone spot me while I did cartwheels down the center line of street. Yeah, I remember Tina and I doing them in front of my house while onlookers tried to pull us away before cars could make a road pizza out our talent. Hey Tina, do you remember that?!? Anyway, I got tons of wrapping to do and I'm sure a headache is to follow (Old Skool!) but I'm feeling pretty fucking good right now and pretty dorky that I"m posting to my blog instead of molesting my wife (well it could be the stupid fight we've been having since, oh um... 1999, that's keeping me from that). Ah, Christmas Eve... it could only be better by some online blowing the crap out of people. Mmm... maybe I'll fire up some BF:42. Sigh... posted by Evil Wayne | 5:40 PM 0 comments Wednesday, December 22, 2004 Vacation Countdown: T-Minus 24 Hours Oh man, I'm starting to get antsy. Mostly because tomorrow should be a blow-off day, you know? At noon, the company is treating pizza (Would you like extra cheese or mushroom for your Christmas Bonus?) So, we're talking 3 bloody hours of work. Bah! Then out of here by 3 PM. It's like Christmas Eve (in this case, Christmas Eve, Eve... eve?) where you can't sleep because you know you're gonna be neck deep in gifts... only it never really works out that way does it? Not to get off on a tangent, but isn't Christmas the biggest Schrodinger's Cat? Every unwrapped gift is Everything You Ever Wanted, until you actually unwrap it and make it real. Then it's all downhill. Anyway, I've got to get a few things in order here before I go. Not the least of which is making sure I have all the files for the Brikington Manor pages I'll need, or someone will probably have a raging fit and drive all the way down from NH to turn my merry holiday into a bloodbath of blinding rage. One big downside is I don't have Excel at home, so that creates a bit of sang. Shaun has a handful of charts that are Excel that I'll have to convert straight to HTML. My only problem here is that if they need to be edited, I won't be able to do it. I also need to make sure that all my files here are kosher and nothing aberrant is laying about. Just in case. posted by Evil Wayne | 3:00 PM 2 comments Tuesday, December 21, 2004 Thanks Mike!
Totally unexpected, totally cool. I couldn't pry it out of TheBoy's hand until he went to bed. I do feel bad, because I got you a whole buttload of nothing this year. Actually that's not entirely true; I've got this blog entry. You should print it out and tape it to the wall or wherever you put stuff you get from all your adoring fans. Merry Christmas you wacky guy. posted by Evil Wayne | 10:59 PM 1 comments Saturday, December 18, 2004 Vacation Errata Did I forget to mention that I was also looking forward to finishing up The Brikington Manor Horrors webpage? I sure meant to. There are two write ups, one that Shaun wove into a groovy little story with images. Now this one would be posted if I could just get a damned image of the gypsy (and yes, I could have done it myself, but it's more fun to blame others and avoid responsibility. I take my cues from the current administration, people!) There's also DaveE's write up and a weird little spreadsheet of the turns. Plus, character bios, secret motives and other fun. Oh yes, it's high on my to-do list and we can put that damned Hammer of Smiting away, please - for the love of God, the guilt! The horrible, horrible guilt! posted by Evil Wayne | 4:06 PM 0 comments Thursday, December 16, 2004 Vacation Countdown: T-Minus 168 Hours In exactly 7 days, I'll be on vacation for 10. I think it's the single largest block of time I've take off here since I started all most five years ago. Man, that's pathetic. On one hand, I can really use a break from here. I think the longest I've been away from work is about five days, maybe six. Usually that involves taking a couple of vacation days and pairing it with a long weekend holiday or something. On the other hand, I always come back and there's tons to catch up on. Sometimes it really sucks to be away for so long and have so much to readjust to when getting back. (Although this time, there's a downturn in work flow, so the shock should be lessened somewhat). I think I hate the reorientation that comes with taking time off. Having to wake up and be ready earlier instead of rolling out of bed whenever the hell I feel like it. Okay, I haven't been able to do that in years. Because children will set fire to the house if left unsupervised - it's a scientific fact. Anyway, I'm looking forward to my Christmas vacation where I can get unlimited Lego, FPS'ing and sex. And by that I mean, I'm still dreaming... posted by Evil Wayne | 3:35 PM 0 comments Wednesday, December 15, 2004 Wikipedia I'm just beginning to discover the gloriously detailed minutiae at wickpedia, an online encyclopdia of sorts. In the same vein as Urban Legends or IMDB.com, it has that wonderful ping-pong effect where you start at one end and just bounce through subjects and links until you get so far off on a tanget, you forget what the hell you started with. I kid you not, I started with Natalie Merchant (one of my favorite artists) and wound up here. And then spent a lot of time here too. Being a major fan as a kid (and a total geek) I, of course, reading the whole damn thing. It's another great use for the web. And a giant time-sink for me. posted by Evil Wayne | 9:27 PM 0 comments Tuesday, December 14, 2004 O Christmas Tree We went and got our tree tonight. I actually wanted to wait until the weekend, but Tine's been pushy for some time now and I it's not worth have a fight about it.
But it turns out it was probably good that we went tonight. The place we always go, actually didn't have as many left as the normally do at this time. Plus, one of the farms we pass along the way, which had tons last week, was also getting bare. Last weekend must have been the big tree days. We got it home, in the house and I managed to get the lights on it have it wired up. (Two years ago TheBoy actually manged to pull it down). So tomorrow, hopefully, we'll get it decorated and then we can start having some fucking happy Christmas. posted by Evil Wayne | 10:58 PM 0 comments Saturday, December 11, 2004 Angels I have to say that this type of figure has been slowly growing on me since I first saw them in The Ultimate Lego Book. At first, I had a hard time with them not having a face. Minfigs are pretty sweet, with their simple smiles and whatnot. But the Miniland figs have their own special charm. Bigger and more flexible. There's more room for details - of the blocky kind.
These are pretty cool. I've bookmarked this builder to come back to her stuff. Too bad her website's in Japanese. So how wrong is it that I see them and think, "Hey, these would be cool in some kind of Heaven vs Hell BrikWar game?" posted by Evil Wayne | 10:07 AM 0 comments Tuesday, December 07, 2004 RTS: Old Skool I got a little hot StarCraft action over the weekend. Got in a game with Dan and DaveE on Saturday night and I did my damnest to keep up. Piss poor job that I did - frankly I'm lucky it was a humans vs computer game, because they would have pimp-slap me silly. I burned all my time to create air units. Then I sacrificed more time and resources to churn out a battlecruiser - the big heavy air unit for the Terrans. I was so proud of my little own Capt Gloval that I was about to say something. Until I scrolled around and saw Dan had 321 battlecruisers of his own. DaveE had just as many Protoss carriers.
Let's face it: I suck. It's been a long time since I played a multiplayer RTS. I used to be pretty good at Total Annihilation, but those days are long gone. I'm wicked rusty and have a hard time balancing resource managment while building units and upgrades... :| When the big battles started, I threw my paltry fleets into the mix just to get a piece of the action. I think I had one ship left when it was all over. I mean, I was able to cover the rear pretty darn well. Now, if I can get them to play a new game, so we all start out as newbies, I'll be all set. posted by Evil Wayne | 11:40 PM 0 comments Monday, December 06, 2004 Tales From the Front TheBoy™ did something that I'd classify as pretty intelligent over the weekend. On Saturday, to keep him entertained, I got out some scrap paper and a pencil to let him draw, which is really just scribbling on the paper at this point. Sometimes it more like pounding on the paper with whatever writing instrument he's gotten ahold of, which is much better than pounding on the walls with whatever writing instrument he's gotten ahold of... But he gets bored quickly, so I sat with him and try to draw things I though he'd like. A truck, a bus, a 1968 Mach I Mustang with holly carbs... Okay, that was for me. I asked him what he wanted me to draw and he said something that sounded like pipk or kip or tick. What? I said and he would repeat the sound. "Pip?" I asked. "No, kipk," he responded and pointed to the paper. We did this a couple of times and he was clearly getting frustrated with my inability to understand. Then he started pointing to his nose. "No, daddy, tipk," he said with his finger on his nose. Then he would touch my nose. "Nose?" I would say. He can say nose, so I was really starting to get lost. Suddenly, he grabbed my arm, still pointing to his nose, and quite calmly said, "No daddy, tipk. Oink, oink, oink." "Oh, pig!" I said. And his face lit up. "Yes!" Maybe all kids do it, but I thought it was pretty smart for him to realize what he was saying wasn't coming across. And, at the end of his frustration, instead of getting upset to the nth degree, he found a different way to let me know what it was. That's not to say he's going to go off and form a Universal Field Theory or anything. He still gets frustrated, but it's really cool to see him learning and using his brain. posted by Evil Wayne | 4:53 PM 0 comments |
