Thursday, May 27, 2004 Update: LAN and Brick Okay, I've added a LAN page and a nav link, to help with the bi-annual LAN Parties we're trying to have. Right now, and probably for a short while, something will change just about every time you visit, so remember to hit the Reload button. For those losers actually on the profile list, you should give me information to plug in. I've also added some brick pages for greater Lego detailing. Again, there's not tons there and I'm still fleshing out the navigation. If you think this is bad, you should have seen all the pages I discarded. Unweldy and ugly. Anyway, there some content there now. More to follow. House Update: There's still tons going on, but it's moving quickly. I'm really hoping they'll be done in a few weeks at the most. I've been a major slacker about updating the pics. But I have been taking them each time I come home and something is new. It's just a matter of getting them posted. Soon, I promise. posted by Evil Wayne | 10:37 AM 0 comments Wednesday, May 19, 2004 Reworking Stuff I've revamped some of the site. Nothing extraodinary. Reworked the Image page and the House Work stuff to show more pics of Before and a page for each day that work is done, more or less. There won't be as many pics as yesterday because they're only installing windows today and you really can't tell from the outside, and I probably won't get to them until tomorrow evening anyway. It's a good thing. We have had to move matresses out of the way yesterday and today so they can actually get to the windows and I don't really want to have to do it again. I've also added the only missing part, the Lego page. However, right now there's minimal functionality, so it's not even worth mentioning. (Even though I just did). I do think that all the drawing stuff I was going to post here is going to get ported over to puncducs.com. I'm also thinking of putting the videos over there as well, but I'm unsure. I know, I know; You're on the edge of your seat with anticipation. Also, getting up at 6 AM bites. posted by Evil Wayne | 1:38 PM 0 comments Tuesday, May 18, 2004 House Work Okay, I took a ton of pics of the work being done. Maybe tomorrow as well, then it ought to slack off as I actually have to go back to work at some point. :P Anyway, there's a gallery for the pics under Image and House Work. Man, I can't wait for all this to be done. posted by Evil Wayne | 4:49 PM 0 comments And So It Begins... Whoo-hoo! They called last night and said they were coming for the windows. I spent all of last night taking down mini-blinds, unscrewing all the hardware (that was a bitch) and clearing out the areas around the windows. They're here now and it sounds like a war up there.
They're also doing the wall this week as well, so hopefully within the next week or two this part of the house will be done. Finally, things are moving along. And I Completely Forgot Last week on Thursday Mike broke his wrist. Not a bad break, a hairline fracture as it turns out, but that kid is so accident-prone. This is at least his third broken bone. I mean, it's going to start to look like we beat him. Anyway, I spent about three hours in the ER and genearlly waiting for them to take x-rays, which was cool. They don't use film, but a digital cartridge that the tech loaded into a computer and up came his arm. Groovy! I saw the x-rays all within about 30 seconds of them being taken. But they couldn't read them there, the break wasn't noticable, so we had to see another doctor. When I went to pick up the x-rays, they gave me a self-running CD that I checked out at home. Pretty cool:

I either go to Toys R Us and at least fondle the Lego there, usually I'll get something and feel guilty. Or I go to Best Buy and fondle the merchandise in the DVD and Games areas. This time I wanted something specific, U2's The Unforgettable Fire and my own bloody DVD of Donnie Darko. The last time I was there, the U2 was MIA and I was bumming. This time, I get there and there's lots of U2 to page through and, luckily, one last copy of TUF. Go me. And, yup, Donnie Darko, ten bucks! Go me again! Groovy, so I wander over to the games section and begin the fondling. And there it is, Unreal Tournament 2004. DVD version. I mull it over. I put it back. I wander around. Oh, look Knights of the Old Republic has dropped in price. I really want that at some point. I pick it up and a voice in the back of my head bemoans how difficult it'll be to get into a RPG right now. I can't even finish Tron single player never mind NWN, much less KOTR. So I put it back. I stroll around. Tine calls me (more later). And I'm back in front of UT2004. After all, it's easier to drop into a FPS than any other game. I love on-line gaming. I love knowing those other figures running around, talking smack, getting the shit blown out of; they're all real, live people sitting at home some place, cursing my name as I put a sniper round between thier eyes. And I do love FPSs. The UT2004 demo kicked ass. All the things I've heard, kick ass. PCGamer gave it a 90+ rating. The Onslaught mode was awesome. Teams had to take control points in a specific succession in order to lower the opposing team's shield around their reactor. Once down, you had to blow it up before they could retake a control point from you. That one map in the demo, I've played hundreds of times, and you can get pretty sick of seeing the same terrain over and over again. It's the same combination that wound me up with Battlefield: 1942. The Wake Island demo totally blew me away. The right mix of combat: Ground, Air and Sea. Although, I think I played that one for six days before I had the full-blown game in my hands. The UT2004 demo has a lot of the same things going for it and well... that was pretty much it, I guess. So I've got it now. I'll have it installed tonight and probably be up on-line all bloody weekend getting my ass fragged and no sleep (but what else is new). Come find me. I'm either Hot_Monkey_Love or Hootie McBoob ... or Evil Wayne. Le Sigh. posted by Evil Wayne | 2:25 PM 0 comments Monday, May 10, 2004 Surreal Moment of the Week This morning when I was dropping off The Boy, the sitter had two peacocks, live peacocks, strutting about on her front lawn. I think they were females as they did not have those ornate tail feathers, but they did have a tiara-like crown on their greyish heads. They were bigger than I would have thought. Bigger than the wild turkeys I've seen around here (another surreal moment). And a bit uglier to be honest. There was something mean in their yellowsih eyes. Maybe it was me, but they seemed to be getting closer to me not out of any sense of trust, but more of a defend-the-turf-by-ripping-off-your-flesh kind of way. I couldn't stay very long, and frankly, in the end, I was happy to leave. On an unrealted note, the coffee this morning was exactly what I imagine a warm cup of burning tire to taste like. Mmmmm... posted by Evil Wayne | 8:36 PM 0 comments Sunday, May 09, 2004 Tales, Strange and Pointless: The Pistol I've added a short (2:39) video to the Media page. Originally, this started as a mock-up to show another BrikWar player what could be done with just some stills and some narration. I was thinking of creating some kind of into video for a game later this year (Halloween). I don't have access to much of my Lego collection at the moment (still haven't heard from the contracters, so it's all packed away) so I can't really take pics of minfigs in poses and whatnot, so I used doodles and sketches that I've been scanning into the computer over the last couple of weeks. But, like a lot of things I do, it gets out of control to some degree and this has turned into it's own little series, so I've labeled it like it's one of many. The only downside is the narration. I'm not really versed in recording dialog, so the sound level on the voiceover is uneven and it breaks in a couple of places. Sorry, I tried. I don't really have a good way to input voice either. I actually used the Window's Sound Recorder to do it. I'll have to keep an eye out for some program that'll let me do it (or email me with a suggestion. Remember, I'm looking for something CHEAP). Here's a direct link to the RealPlayer file: Tales, Strange and Pointless: The Pistol. posted by Evil Wayne | 5:12 PM 0 comments Wednesday, May 05, 2004 LAN News There's Good News and Bad News kids. The Bad News: I have to postpone my involvement for the now. Unfortunately, with the work on my house imminent (or so I hope), I cannot commit to anything in the near future. I realize this, in all likelihood, means the whole LAN party will be postponed and I'm sorry about that. If someone else, perhaps Sean, wants to take the lead then you can organize yourselves into an electronic mayhem at your choosing. However, The Good News: If, as I expect, the work on my house starts this week or next, they could be done by June (crossing my fingers here). When it is completed, the sunroom will be a regular room with four walls, a roof and only a couple of windows and not the solar furnace it becomes around this time of year. We are also installing an permanent air-conditioner up there. The room will actually be empty for awhile as we are planning out the furniture, rugs, superhumogeous TV, and whatnot before actually moving into it.It will make a perfect area to set up tables and conduct the next LAN party. With the AC in place, it won't really matter what time of year we have it. So, if you do not reoganize the LAN, I suggest that it *might* happen around the mid-to-late June/Early July. Unfortunately, as they haven't actually started, I can't be more specific right now. As the work gets closer to completion, I can start organizing it again. Sorry to made a mess of things. BTW you can see the old LAN page Here. At some point I'll migrate it over to this site, pics and all. posted by Evil Wayne | 11:42 PM 0 comments Monday, May 03, 2004 Cleaning Up the Joint They are allegedly starting work on the house soon. The windows are supposed to be installed first sometime this week. We spent the whole weekend clearing out rooms and trying to finish up the cleaning, but it wasn't enough. I had to take today off so we could get it done. There just so much garbage you accumulate and don't even realize. If we ever had to move, it would probably be eaiser to just burn the house down and buy new stuff. We also did the room swap on Sunday. So now Kelly and Michael are sharing a room and Tine and I have The Boy's crib right at our feet in what was Mike's room (and will be Kell's). This is far from an ideal situation. They're already acting ansty about it. I can't blame them, but it's been two freakin' days. I really hope they mange to finish the bedroom work soon (well, they would have to start for it to finish - stupid laws of the physical universe...). In the end, everyone will have new rooms and a bit more breathing room. I have to say that I'm going to miss our giant bedroom with it's walk-in closet. Not that it's been a closet for years now. First it was the comptuer room, then Finn's room and now the wall will be knocked out to make it part of Mike's new room. I took some pics of the rooms they way they are and I'll post them at some point. Probably as the work is started and finished to give that before and after shots. posted by Evil Wayne | 8:50 PM 0 comments |
