Lost Time

SciFi is doing some month-long miniseries event and they kick it off with a reshowing of Taken over two days. When it was originally on it was two-hours, every night for two weeks (M-F). That bad boy is 20 hours long. And don't I end up watching a huge chunk of it again! Oddly, it was easier to watch in marathon form than spread out over two weeks. I think its original run was a real commitment and I know I was happy to get my life back when it was over.

But this time it just sucked me in from the moment I turned it on. I think, knowing what was going to happen was a plus this time as well. When I got to the end last time, it was slightly anti-climatic. Not terribly, but slightly. Funny how you think about something when you only get the previews and you have to take it and make up the rest so you can decide if something is worth watching. Then you watch it and it's nothing what you expected. If they do an okay job with it, you can still be disappointed that it doesn't match your inner movie. But the second time around, you know what's coming, even if you don't remember it all, but you won't be disappointed. Taken was like that this time. It was better knowing the payoff; you could see where things were going and what they were buliding towards instead of trying to guess. I know, that sounds antithetical to watching a movie. Sometimes, things get better with repeated viewings (like just about every Simpsons episode, for example). You catch things you didn't really remember from the first time around. The plot can actually come out stonger.

I have to say that I think was really well done overall (duh, or I probably wouldn't have tuned in again). Regardless, I lost another 20 hours of my life but at least it was in a two chunks (well, really only 18, I missed Part 6 because of the time change).

But in the end, I am just an idiot.
